Teresa Lyons

Teresa Marie Tessa Lyons of Clovis, New Mexico passed away on March 18, 2014. Tessa was born July 1, 1926, in Victoria, TX to Leonard and Julia Hiller. She graduated from Texas Womens University in Denton, Texas with a BS in Art History and English, as well as a Masters Degree from Eastern New Mexico University. After graduating from Texas Womens University, Tessa moved to Clovis to teach school, and that is when she met her future husband, Philip Edwin Lyons. They were married in 1949 and lived both in Clovis and out on the ranch near House, NM. Philip preceded her in death in 1992 after 43 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

Tessa is survived by her brother Ed Hiller Thora, and their 5 children and respective families of Baton Rouge, LA. She is also survived by her three sons, Phil Lyons Donna of Clovis, Patrick Lyons Sandy of Melrose, Paul Lyons Marylou of Canyon, TX, and 2 daughters, Juliann Lyons Lipe Carl of Denver, CO, and Carolyn Lyons Mc Fall Pat of Frisco, TX.

Tessa was actively involved in Sacred Heart Church, Cow Bells, Meals On Wheels, Girl Scouts, Eucharistic Ministry to the Home Bound, numerous Bridge Clubs, and other activities. Tessa was a very accomplished artist and for many years was one of the owners of the PaintnPlace art gallery located on Pile St. In 2012, she was honored at the Clovis Community College with a reception and art show for her lifetime of artistic work.

Those who knew Tessa well, will remember her as a very active and beautiful lady, always willing and wanting to help someone in need and always on the go. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend to all who knew her. She will be truly missed and will be remembered for a life well lived.

A rosary will be recited on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Steed Todd Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of the resurrection will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clovis with Father Carlos Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis with Chris Lyons, Philip Lyons, Andrew Lipe, Daniel Lyons, Patrick McFall, Kevin Spears and Steve North serving as pallbearers.
