Thelma Jo Day Joplin went to be with her precious Lord Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, March 12, 2008. She was born June 9, 1909 to Ora M. Finas Williams in Beckham County, Oklahoma.
She grew up on the family farm, attending the rural schools and graduated from Hext High School in 1927. She attended Weatherford Oklahoma University, then Eastern New Mexico University where she earned her teachers Lifetime New Mexico Certificate. She married Emery A. Day December 24, 1934 at First Christian Church in Erick, Oklahoma. To this union was born one daughter, Sharon in Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Day preceded her in death in February 1972 and she married Frank Joplin May 17, 1977 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She was an elementary teacher for 32 years, the last 26 years in Clovis at Eugene Field and Zia, retiring from Zia in 1974. She was a member of Parkland Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a past matron of Keystone Chapter of Eastern Star, local and state, and was a member of the Teachers Association.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Stubblefield of Clovis; 1 grandson, Mike Petrovich of Ft Worth, Texas and great grandsons, Michael Nicklaus Petrovich both of Aledo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Everett J. Williams and Harold E. Williams and sister, Mildred Roles.
Services will be today Friday March 14, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at Parkland Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
