Thelma Middleton

alignjustify Thelma R. Middleton, 100, of Clovis died Monday, June 25, 2007 at Laurel Plains Healthcare in Clovis. She was born in Caryell County, Gatesville, Texas in 1907 to D. H. Brown and Rachel Jane Stovall Brown, on March 12.

alignjustify She came to Clovis in 1931 and worked in Stones Department Store across the street from the Hotel Clovis, which was not yet completed. When the Hotel Clovis was finished, she worked in the first beauty shop there for a Mrs. Sharp.

alignjustify In 1945 she married R. Earle Growdon and lived in Melrose where they owned a service station, caf, and motel. Earle died of a heart attack in 1966. In 1967 she married Don H. Middleton and has lived at 821 W. Plaza since that time.

alignjustify She was a member of the West 21st Street Church of Christ. She belonged to 16th and Pile Church of Christ for 15 years. She was a Past Regent of D. A. R. Also, she was Past Matron three times of the Order of Eastern Star, held some offices in Grand Chapter, attended General Grand Chapter in California, and 27 Grand Chapters of New Mexico. She was a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, being a real granddaughter as her grandfather was in the Civil War.

alignjustify Don preceded her in death also her mother, father, three sisters, and four brothers. She was the last one in her family. She is survived by one son, Bob Doris Middleton of Clovis, and life long friend, Dorothy Pruitt of Clovis.

alignjustify Graveside services will be held at 10:30 on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis with Cecil Bunch officiating. She will be buried by R. E. Growdon in Mission Gardens.

alignjustify Honorary Casket Bearers will be all Masons, Eastern Star Members, and all of her wonderful friends.
