Thomas Vane Dosher, 80, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at his home in Farwell, TX.
Visitation will be at Steed Todd Funeral Home in Clovis, NM.
Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 am CST, Friday June 17 at Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church (324 5th Street, Farwell, TX 79325) Farwell, Texas. Burial will follow at the Texico Cemetery.
Officiant will be - Joseph A. Whitley, Pastor - Hamlin UMC.
Vane was born January 29, 1936 in the family home located in the Oklahoma Lane community to Alpha Julius Chapman Dosher and Tennie Ellen(Justice). Vane's early years were spent at the school in Okla-homa Lane until he transferred to the Farwell school system. He graduated from Farwell High School in 1954.
Vane married Betty Billingsley in 1963 and they were married for 20 years until her death in 1983.
Vane was very active in the Texico-Farwell communities. He drove a Texico School bus for many years, served on the Texico City Council from 1974 to 1991, and was a member of the Texico Volunteer Fire department from 1964-1991 and served as chief for approximately 18 of those years. A new fire station was built in 1979-80 during his tenure as chief. At the end of their meetings they would often stay and play "42".
Vane established Twin City Machine with his father-in-law in 1964 and operated the company until his retirement in 2005.
Vane was named "Texico Man of the Year" in 1978.
Vane loved being involved in the local agricultural industry and before he retired was able to purchase a farm. He really enjoyed working on his own water wells, as well as his many clients. One of his favorite pastimes after he retired was to assist his family during cotton harvest. He loved to operate a module builder and "mash cotton" as he so eloquently put it.
When he wasn't working he enjoyed fishing, especially with his daughters, and later with his grandchildren, as well as golfing with friends and family.
He was an active member of Hamlin UMC and enjoyed serving there and in the local Emmaus communities.
In 1984 he met Alice Vinton and they learned to square dance together. And they were married May 28, 1989.
Vane is survived by his wife Alice Dosher of Farwell, TX, 5 daughters: Starla White (Art) of San Jon, NM, Tammy Goodman (Lance) of Clovis, NM, Carol Snider (David) of Farwell, TX, Vicki Siler (Mike) of Kingston Springs, TN, Robin Howard (Mark) of Dalhart, TX, 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Morris (Barry) of Charlotte, NC , Rebecca Holland (Boomer)of Kingston Springs, TN, Bobby Snider of Amarillo, Amye White of Albquerque, NM, Bryce Howard (Kalley) of Dalhart, TX and Mason Howard of Pensacola, FL, 4 great-grandchildren, Ethan Morris, Eric Morris, Byron Holland, John Henry Howard.
Vane is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Wilma Dale Holland and a brother Jackie Dale Dosher.
