Thomas F. Tunnell, 81, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, formerly of Clovis, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales, New Mexico. He was born October 16, 1925 in Clovis to Thomas and Minnie Cox Tunnell.
He attended school in Clovis. He married Erma Mobley September 23, 1943 in Portales and enlisted in the Army April 10, 1944. He served in World War II and was discharged from the Army in 1949. He came back to Clovis and worked as a tractor mechanic for N L Tharp. In 1951 he went to work for the railroad and worked the Belen route. He owned a mechanic shop and was a Jack of All Trades. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Local Engineers and enjoyed racing and building race cars.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Horne of Foxfire, North Carolina and Beverly Webb Dennis of Portales; 5 sons, Tony Tunnell Judi of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Ronnie Tunnell T. J. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gerald Tunnell of Belen, New Mexico, Leon Tunnell of San Jose, California and Danny Tunnell of Hobbs, New Mexico; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. CST Friday, February 28, 2008 at Bovina Cemetery in Bovina, Texas with Rick Wilcher officiating. Casket bearers will be Thomas Tunnell, Ronnie Tunnell, Gerald Tunnell, Leon Tunnell, Danny Tunnell and Thomas Tunnell.
