Tristan Nigel Hays, 37, of Albuquerque, NM, left this earth for his eternal home on September 16, 2018. Born in Portales, NM to Terri Leigh Nation and Mikel Hays, of Clovis, Tristan entered this world on July 7, 1981. He had a rough start, having some medical complications, but God had big plans for him. He soon grew strong and healthy and became a sweet, feisty little boy. He spent most of his young life in Clovis and Albuquerque, NM, graduating from Manzano High School in 2000. He was an exceptional athlete, playing baseball and soccer for many years. With a desire to serve his country, Tristan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2002. He completed boot camp in San Diego, CA and served this country until he was medically discharged in 2005. Although his time as a Marine was short, he developed life-long friendships and a deeper sense of appreciation, devotion, and love for his country and fellow-man, especially for those who serve and have served in the U.S. Military. In 2010, Tristan completed his training and education to be an x-ray technician. He was hired at the VA hospital in Albuquerque, NM, in November of 2010, giving him the opportunity to help and serve U.S. Veterans. Reluctant to do so, Tristan attended a four-day Christian Retreat (Walk 106) in April of 2016. There, he met many new friends in Christ, encountered God's mighty love and grace, and on April 9, while at the Walk, dedicated his life to Jesus. He was baptized in a horse trough later that evening. He was truly filled with joy and the peace of God, and has since, never been ashamed to profess his faith in Christ.
Tristan loved his family dearly, and enjoyed get-togethers for special occasions or for no reason at all. He enjoyed biking, running, weight-training, spending time with friends, and his dog, Buddy. Tristan strived every day to be better, do better, always wanting to improve and be the best he could be. He is survived by his parents, Terri Leigh Nation (Steve) of Clovis, and Mikel Hays (Beth) also of Clovis; his siblings, Shannon Clemmer (Curtis) of Fruita, CO, Bryce Fillpot (Mandy) of Lubbock, TX, Baron Fillpot of Albuquerque, NM, Keith White (Kyle) of Huntington Beach, CA, and Ian Hays (Jeliza) of Las Vegas, NV; his grandparents, Lee Nora Hamlett of Clovis, Shara Hays of Wolfforth, TX; and Ann Nation of Clovis; nephews, Jadis, Josiah, Easton, Zane, and Seth; niece, Ellie; and other extended family, Bruce and Mary Sue Fillpot of Albuquerque, NM.
The family would like to thank friends for their love, support, and prayers. Some may say that God took Tristan too soon, but we know He called him home in His perfect timing, and we are grateful for the time we had him here with us. Our minds don't understand and our hearts ache to have him back, but we are provided a bit of comfort knowing that God is in control and we can rest in His promises of everlasting life. We hold on to hope, a living hope in Jesus, who is the anchor for our souls, knowing we will see Tristan again one day, when God calls the rest of us home.
