Vaughneda Shough, age 91, of Las Cruces, NM, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in the MMC Hospital. She was a resident of Casa De Oro Care Center in Las Cruces, NM. Mrs. Shough was previously a long-time resident of Melrose and Clovis, NM, and a school teacher in Bovina, TX and a school teacher/librarian in Ft. Sumner, NM. She was a long-time member of Melrose Church of Christ.
She was born in Arkansas on February 23, 1927 to Joe and Mattie Smith and was the oldest of two children. On April 7, 1945 she married Tillman Shough in Quemado, NM. They were married 53 years before Tillman passed on March 27, 1999. She and Tillman had four children. She is survived by Lexie (Clinton) Armstrong of Las Cruces, NM, Mark (Mindy) Shough of Dallas/Lubbock, TX and Jan (Brian) Stapleton of Madison, MS, along with seven grandchildren Joyce Hicks, Kathy (Craig) Pudil, Kim Armstrong, Kelsi (Jon) Mosqueda, Kirsti (Robert) Uballe, Joseph (Kristen) Stapleton and Shelby Stapleton, nine great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and extended relatives. She is preceded in death by her husband, oldest son (Gary), brother (Bob Smith) and parents.
Visitation will occur at 9:00 am at the Melrose Church of Christ in Melrose, NM on Tuesday, January 8. 2019. The service will immediately follow the visitation at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the Melrose Cemetery.
She will be long-remembered for her caring, servant heart.
