Vernon Odell McWilliams was born in Duro, New Mexico on March 18, 1933 to Hubert and Lillian McWilliams. He graduated from House High School in 1952 and served in the Army at Fort Hood for 2 years. On June 22, 1957, he married Angelina Faye Burton.
Vernon worked at the Shamrock Gas Station located at the Clovis Stockyards and then at the Clovis Sign Company before getting the chance at his choice career, on July 19, 1966 he began working at the Clovis Fire Department where he worked for 27 years, retiring as an Engineer on June 30th, 1993. He was a member of the West 21st St. Church of Christ where he served as the lawn caretaker for approximately 40 years.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Lillian and his two brothers, Alvie and Leo McWilliams.
He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Angelina Faye McWilliams, sister Freda Hawkins, son Randy (Terrie) McWilliams, and daughter Cynthia (Randy) McCasland, 5 grandchildren Marc (Brenda) McWilliams, Justin (Rebecca) McCasland, Kaitlin McWilliams, Amber (Matt) Westfall, and Donovan McWilliams, and 3 great grandsons Connor and Caden McCasland and Jacob McWilliams.
Vernon went to receive his heavenly reward on January 5, 2016.
Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday January 8, 2015 at Steed Todd Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2015 at West 21st Street Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Clovis Fire Firefighter Association Scholarship with ENMU Station 8, 1500 S Ave K Portales, NM 88130.
