Victor Pride Stout died in Grand Junction, CO, on 2142009. He was 88 years old. Victor was born the second of six sons to Claudia Rogers Stout and George R. Stout. The Stouts homesteaded near Grady in 1917 and farmed there for six decades. Victor attended public school at Hollene and Grady, and he graduated with a B.S. from West Texas Teachers college. Victor met Maggie Fryar, the daughter of homesteaders in the Bellview area, at church in Broadview and it was love at first sight. They married in 1942.
After college, Victor taught agriculture to veterans returning from WWII, was a radio farm reporter, worked for the Soil Conservation Service, and was a custom harvester, before becoming a farmer. While farming, Victor also worked as principal of Causey School, Assistant Superintendent of Roosevelt County Schools, Superintendent of Des Moines Schools, biology teacher at Clovis High School, and guidance counselor at Gattis Junior High and Clovis High School. He also earned a masters degree in school administration and counseling from E.N.M.U.
Victors greatest loves were education and agriculture and he spent his life enthusiastically participating in both careers. He held state and national offices in many organizations related to teaching, counseling, administration, accreditation, and agriculture. He lobbied the legislature and the Congress on behalf of farmers and educators. With a group of farmers, he made a trip to China and taught conservation methods on farming communes.
Victor managed to live his dreams and traveled a great deal, learned to fly late in life, hunted in Alaska. He and Maggie also enjoyed involvement with International Flying Farmers. Always interested in regional history, Victor collected historical barbed wire samples in the SW region as a way to discuss the story and context of development in the area.
Married fifty-nine years, Victor and Maggie were devoted members of the Church of Christ. They raised two children: Bob G. Amarillo and Linda K Grand Junction, CO. Victor was preceded in death by Maggie in 2001, Bob in 2008, by parents, and by brothers Wayne and Calvin. He is survived by brothers Dudley, F.D., and Billy, and by daughter Linda and son-in-law Dean Wolford.
