Volna J. NewellShotgun, 85, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. She was born July 2, 1923 in Haskell, Texas to Roy Rachael Neal.
She married Clyde Newell August 16, 1941, in Clovis, New Mexico. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1963, serving faithfully in the nursery and helping with Wednesday night dinner. She co-owned Art Craft Printing working alongside her husband until the time of his passing.
She was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. She was an amazing artist expressing her appreciation for God's
erse creation through painting, capturing the world as she saw it on canvas. She shared with her family a love for the mountains in the fall and the ocean in the summer. She was completely independent; driving and playing bridge weekly until the time of her passing. Her love and enthusiasm for watching her son excel at sports continued with her great grandchildren. She was a devoted fan who lasted 6 innings last month in the rain, refusing to sit in the car. She was a friend to many and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Throughout her lifetime she helped with meals on wheels and made countless contributions to various charities and organizations. She was an amazingly strong woman who endured more in a lifetime than any one woman should have to; surviving her husband and both her children. Her strength and ability to endure is an inspiration. Her loving, giving, and tenacious spirit has marked many lives and will undoubtedly be greatly missed, but certainly not forgotten.
She is survived by 3 granddaughters, Shannon Fallis Joseph of Clovis, New Mexico, Brandi Cummings Kyle of Lubbock, Texas and Christina Newell of Dallas, Texas; 5 great grandchildren, Jordane Devinne Fallis, Kaden, Ryland Zack Cummings. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 1 son, Kyle Newell and 1 daughter, Clyda Newell Ford.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Steed-Todd Chapel with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Have Memorial Gardens.
Casket bearers will be Joseph Fallis, Mark Huerta Kaden Cummings.
