William. A "Dub" Bishop, 81, a longtime resident of Clovis, NM passed away to heaven peacefully on Monday, January 21, 2019. He was born on January 30, 1937 in Plaska, Texas to William C. and Opal Bishop.
After graduating from high school in Memphis, TX, Dub met Rosetta Mae Sims of Muleshoe, TX and they were married on June 15, 1958 at First Baptist Church of Muleshoe. Their two children, Vanda and Darren, were born in Muleshoe where Dub was a machinist and welder for nine years. In 1967 the family moved to Clovis, NM where Dub was a machinist with Empy's Welding and Machine Shop for over 30 years until his retirement.
Dub had many interests and hobbies. He served as a certified volunteer police officer in the New Mexico Mounted Patrol, a state law enforcement agency that assists the New Mexico State Police and other law enforcement agencies. He was also an avid outdoorsman and loved camping in the mountains, hunting and fishing as well as birdwatching and nature photography.
Dub's Christian faith was the centerpiece of his life and he served as a Deacon, Usher, Sunday School teacher, church photographer, and in many other capacities at Highland Baptist Church and later at Central Baptist Church in Clovis. He continued to be an active and engaged member of Central Baptist Church right up until his passing.
Dub is survived by his wife of 60 years Rosetta M. Bishop of Clovis, NM, his daughter Vanda Thorp and husband Steve of Roswell, NM, and his son Darren Bishop and wife Karen of San Antonio, TX. He has seven grandchildren: Lauren Gadzia of Seattle, WA, Mara Thorp of Albuquerque, NM, Jordan Bishop of Dallas, TX, Justin Bishop of San Antonio, TX, Jacob Bishop of Bryan, TX, Joseph Bishop of San Antonio, TX, Jayce Bishop of San Antonio, TX and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Helen Inman and husband Jerry of El Paso, TX, his brother Jim Bishop and wife Mona of Pampa,TX, his sister Judy Johnson of Ft Worth, TX, his sister-in-law Wanda Bishop of Amarillo, TX, his sister-in-law Vada Bishop of Mesquite, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his morning coffee club and many friends.
Dub was preceded in death by his parents W.C. and Opal Bishop, his older brother Alvin R. Bishop and his younger brother Benny C. Bishop.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Central Baptist Church in Clovis NM with a public viewing and visitation with the family beginning at noon. A brief graveside service will be held at Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following.
