The beloved Wilma Jean Gillespie (Copeland) journeyed to the Kingdom of Heaven on December 1st, 2019 to be with Jesus.
Jean was born in Mangum, Oklahoma, on September 11th, 1928 to loving parents, William Gillis Copeland and Ruby Irene Copeland (Baldridge). Wilma Jean graduated high school in Whiteface, Texas, worked for the Clovis National Bank, and retired from Sunwest Bank.
Wilma married her best friend and the love of her life, Philip Gillespie, on February 9th, 1948 in Lubbock, Texas. They created together a beautiful family and legacy. They were members of Kingswood United Methodist, and Jean was an active member of the Curry County Foster Grandparent Volunteers.
Wilma Jean Gillespie is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Phil of 67 years; daughter Teri Lea Gillespie; brother Robert Lee Copeland; sister Edna Faye Copeland Clarkson; brother Donald Ray Copeland; and grandson, Trace Shealy.
Jean “Mimi” is survived by her sister, Sue (Copeland) Tipton; daughters; Phyllis (John) Horne, Jeri Sargent, and Karen Shealy. She is also survived by seven wonderful granddaughters; Shannon Horne Adams, Taryn Horne Hunt, Amy Denton Marshall, Krista Denton, Erin Sargent, Lisa Sargent Rosson, and Sarah Sargent, as well as sixteen beautiful great-grandchildren and her daughter by heart, Sherri May Brewer. Mimi was a grand, witty, enthusiastic person, and all her grandkids were her “most favorite.”
A memorial service for Wilma Jean Gillespie will be held in Clovis, New Mexico at the Kingswood United Methodist at 10:00am on Thursday, December 5th, 2019.
