Wilma Whitener

Services for Wilma Nell Whitener age 79 of Pleasant Hill, New Mexico will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Steed Todd Chapel with Rev. Gene Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis with Dale Gober, Galen Hromas, Robert Myers, Jack Myers, Ricky Armstrong and Robert Thornton acting as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are special care giver Janice Brown, all friends and other caregivers.

Wilma was born September 18, 1934 in Farwell, Texas to Odom and Elsie Mae Brand Smith. She attended school in Texico, New Mexico, Pleasant Hill, New Mexico and graduated from Farwell, Texas. She married Howard Whitener August 7, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Texico, New Mexico. She was a homemaker and substitute teacher for over 20 years in the Texico Schools and also taught Sunday School Classes in many Baptist Churchs in the area. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Womens Club, enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, cooking, and had a Fresh Farm Raise Egg delivery route for years. She was of the Baptist Faith.

She is survived by her husband of over 61 years Howard Whitener of Pleasant Hill, New Mexico son Gerald and wife Cheryl Whitener of Pleasant Hill, New Mexico daughter Charlene Whitener of Belen, New Mexico son Terry Whitener of Pleasant Hill, New Mexico brother Dean and his wife Georgina Smith of Lovington, New Mexico brother Billy and wife Suzey Smith of Bovina, Texas sister Fern and her husband Nathan Tharp of Texico, New Mexico two grandchildren Dustin Whitener of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Denise and husband Jerrod Smith of Las Cruces, New Mexico two great grandchildren Beau Smith and Abby Smith both of Las Cruces, New Mexico numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers Glen Smith, and Gerald Lynn Smith.
