Long time resident, Winnie Ethel Brown Moore, age 100, passed from her life on December 27, 2010, to be with her heavenly father. She was the 11th child born to Joseph and Margaret America Garner on October 20, 1910 in Rockwood, Texas. She attended high school in Melvin and Coleman, Texas. She married Clarence R. Brown on December 17, 1927 in Stacey, Texas. Together the couple had two children: a daughter, Billie Louise, and a son Glen Ray. In 1942, the couple decided to make a move to Clovis, New Mexico. She furthered her education by attending Business College. She was employed as a bookkeeper by Max Meadors Car Dealership, Rollins Packing Company and Dalboms Feed Store.
Later in life, after being widowed, she married Clarence J. Cherry Moore on February 15, 1986 at the Central Baptist Church in Clovis, NM. At which time she gained another daughter, Brenda Morris.
A 100th birthday celebration was given in her honor on October 16, 2010 at the Central Baptist Church where friends and family gathered from far and near to help her celebrate her special day. Winnie has seen her family evolve, and she has seen a lot of technology develop from telephones, automobiles and computers to airplanes. She became ill two weeks after her birthday celebration. Until that time, Winnie lived independently in her own home and still drove herself about town. Her new residence became The Retirement Ranch of Clovis. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to those who cared for and loved Winnie during this difficult time, as well as Vista Care Hospice, her doctors, and Presbyterian Hospital.
She was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, as well as being a devoted Christian. Her love and belief in the Lord and prayer got her through every day. She handled life with such grace. Her smile and the twinkle in her blue eyes could melt hearts. She won many a heart. There wasnt a person that didnt love Winnie. She most definitely was not selfish and had wisdom beyond belief. She could share stories of years and days gone by. If you needed prayer, she had a hotline to God.
Winnie was a member of the Central Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was a very active member. Her interests included singing with the Glory Choir, attending Sunday school, morning worship service and any other church activities.
She had a passion for quilting, sewing, painting, singing, music, listening to the piano being played, and gardening. She was a believer in higher education, and enjoyed visiting with her family and friends around her kitchen table. Winnie looked forward to visiting many dear friends at the Senior Meal Site daily.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband Clarence J. Cherry Moore of 20 years, first husband Clarence R. Brown 1981, and her eleven siblings.
She is survived by her daughter Billie Louise Creek and husband Leroy of Durango, CO son Glen Ray Brown and wife Antoinette of Tempe, AZ Brenda Morris and husband Gwin of Allen, TX seven grandchildren nine greatgrandchildren numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends and her church family. She is also survived by two very special friends, Thelma Coffey and Quineil Roark, who without their help, support and love for her, would have made for a more difficult time. Winnies family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts. God bless the both of you and all those whose lives she touched.
For all who knew and loved Winnie, she will be deeply missed. God called his Angel home. How lucky heaven is. Hearts and doorways open wide, love all around and peace inside.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 29 at SteedTodd Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services for Winnie will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Central Baptist Church in Clovis, NM. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis. Pallbearers will be Stan Patterson, J.E. Williams, Travis Denton, Will Cockrell, Terry Splawn, and Bill Chapman.
