Mr. McCord married Delaphane Walker on July 21, 1944 in Fort Scott, Kansas. In 1942, Mr. McCord joined the US Army stationed at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He was assisgned to A Battery 1st gun103rd Field Artillery Battalion. He was deployed to the European Theater and participated in the southern invasion of France in 1944. Mr. McCord entered combat, replacing the 95th infantry
ision under the 7th Army, which was commanded by General Patch. He also participated in five separate battle campaigns including support of General Pattons 3rd Army Battle of the Bulge at Bastone, France. The 103rd was the last American battalion involved in battle in the European Theater in World War II.
In 1946 Mr. McCord enlisted in the U.S. Army-Air force and participated in the Berlin Air Lift. In 1951 he was assigned to the 35th Fighter Wing at Johnson AFB in Japan. Then in 1958 Mr. McCord was a part of the 47th Bomber Wing stationed at Alconbury, England. In 1961 he was stationed at his home base as part of the 474th Fighter Wing at Cannon AFB Clovis, New Mexico. In 1965 he was deployed twice to Vietnam to participate in the operation One Buck Five. Mr. McCord retired from military service with 23 years of active duty and later retired from Civil Service in 1984 as part of the 27th Civil Engineering Squadron, and maintained the position of electrical superintendent, stationed at Cannon AFB, Clovis, New Mexico.
Hi is survived by his wife Delaphane of the home; 2 Daughters Betty Studzinski of Katy, TX, and Jackie Thornton Steve of Chillicothe, OH; 1 Son Ronnie McCord Kim of Clovis; Grandchildren Jimmy and Sean Studzinski, Kendra Thornton, Magan Hebert, Kerri Scano, Stephani Thornton, Lindsey Thornton, Kristin Wall, and Cody McCord; Great-grandchildren Brennon, Alexis, Jayda, Kainan, Cameron, Faith, Taylor, Nick, Zack, and Samantha; and his beloved Pepper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 Brothers; and 2 Sisters.
Honorary casket bearers will be, James B. Studzinski, Sean J. Studzinski, Cody W. McCord, Stephen R. Thornton, Ronald W. Wall, Scott Messer, Joe Jones, and Walter Kitchen.
Military Honors will be conducted by the Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard.
