Eldon C. Blackburn, 90, of Melrose, New Mexico, passed away December 5, 2014.
Eldon was born April 7, 1924 in Hassell, New Mexico to Sam Blackburn and Myrtle Myers. Eldon married Delores V. Ashley on December 30, 1944 in Fort Sumner. He was an Army veteran, a farmer, and rancher. He loved to rodeo and helped his neighbors work cattle. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and rodeo. He was a proud member of the New Mexico Old Timers Rodeo Association.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Wayne Blackburn, sister Maurine Eads, and grandson Darin Bradley.
Eldon is survived by his wife, Delores, 3 daughters Theresa Marshall Bradley of Melrose, Linda Lon Sultemeier of Melrose, Wanda Bowen of Yukon, OK, 1 sister Wilma Knudson of Portales, 9 grandchildren Robin Kevin Jasper, Matt Bradley, Kent Denise Bradley, Christi Bill Jack Pittman, Kelli Greg Modesette, Ashley T.J. Good, Kari Bobby Conner, Kyle Creswell, Clay Kyndal Creswell, and 8 greatgrandchildren Allison Jasper, Kaitlyn Jasper, Arden Pittman, Kip Pittman, Jett Pittman, Tanner Modesette, Tristyn Modesette, and Lacy Good.
A viewing will be held from 26 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2014 at SteedTodd Funeral Home in Clovis, NM. A service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, December 15, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Melrose, NM with Brother Durwood Wofford officiating. Memorials can be sent to Melrose Baptist Church or donors choice of charity.
